When traveling to bustling cities like Bangkok, finding new and unique souvenirs can be quite challenging. In the Philippines, it's customary to bring back "pasalubong" or presents for our loved ones after returning from a trip. While we discovered an abundance of high-quality wholesale clothes, we also stumbled upon delightful street food and fresh fruits. We were so impressed that we decided to bring back a variety of fruit for my two crocodile brothers back home. So what are we waiting for? Let's hit the road! Let's go!

Where to buy bring-home goodies and souvenirs in Bangkok?

Pratunam Market: This is the place to be!

Situated at the intersection of Ratchaprarop and Phetburi Road, opposite Platinum Fashion Mall, Pratunam Market is a must-visit for all food and shopping enthusiasts. With every step, the excitement in my eyes grew as I perused the countless stalls. It's no wonder that this market is known as the Food and Shopping Mecca of Bangkok.

1. Tamarind Products

During our visit to Pratunam Market, we scored some giant sweet tamarind for only 50-80 baht. A dash of salt enhances the flavor of this delicious fruit, which is even more pronounced than the ones from my childhood. Back then, we used to climb the tamarind tree near my cousin's house to gain access to a restricted area where we could swim on a nearby beach. Memories came flooding back as we explored the market. A rusted ship by the shore also reminded us of the times we used to play inside and search for leeches.

We also stumbled upon big Rose Apples or Tambis for only 50 BAHT while wandering around Pratunam's night market. In the Philippines, we refer to this fruit as "Tambis," also known as the Malay apple or rose apple. These fruits are usually smaller in Zambia, so I was surprised at how sweet, juicy, and crispy they tasted. It reminded me of my childhood days when we had a tree near our apartment and all the kids from the neighborhood would gather and play around it. My mum and I decided to buy a pack of it to share with my brothers back home.

To avoid any potential customs problems, it's best to opt for dried tamarind goods instead. These products are typically less perishable and less likely to contain pests or diseases. Plus, they're often easier to pack and transport than fresh tamarind.

2. Dried Seafood

If you're in the dried goods section near the river ferry by the Wat Pho temple in Thailand, be sure to grab a bag of dried spicy shredded fish. This paper-thin orange delicacy is the perfect complement to a cold beer and costs between 50-100 baht. My cousin's older brother recently visited Thailand and was still craving these addictive snacks a month later. Once you try them, you'll understand why – the more you eat, the more you'll crave.

3. Clothing 

Another souvenir to bring back from Bangkok that is both practical and stylish, than clothing is definitely a great option to consider. Not only are clothes lighter and easier to pack than other items, and also Bangkok is known for its fashion and unique clothing styles. 

We discovered some fantastic places to shop for wholesale goods. The Pratunam Night Market and Night Bazaar at Ramkamheng Soi 65 were two standout locations. We found an abundance of affordable clothing items, such as dresses originally priced at 300 baht, which were discounted to around 250-200 baht each if you purchased two or more. Even better, if you bought six items, the price was reduced by 50 percent, making it just around 150 baht. This is great news for any online business back in the Philippines. We also picked up some statement T-shirts and polo shirts for my brothers.
