Tourist Destinations in Paris: Slept through our Alarm

There are days when you just don't hear the alarm. Guess what happened on our second day in Paris?  Because of that, we had to postpone our first activity of the day.  We felt so bad as our teacher waited for us; we were supposed to have an art class that morning.

I underestimated the power of jet lag with a mixture of time differences from California.  A perfect mix that makes you sleep non-stop till ten o'clock in the morning.  We woke up dazed and confused before reality kicked in.  Let’s go!

Monday, October 14
Activities for the day: take an art class, see the Louvre Museum, the Notre Dame Cathedral, and the River Seine and try a sunset rooftop bar. The art class was postponed. Make sure you get enough sleep and reserve some time to adjust.

Revised Activities for the day: Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Walking around River Seine, and Jazz Night.

Aside from visiting the Eiffel Tower, checking out an Antique Bazaar, and Dining at Rue Cler Market, there's still more to see in Paris.  Our first stop for the day was the Louvre Museum.  We took an Uber to the nearest street to the museum and walked ourselves through the busy streets of Paris.

My husband and I along with a close friend of mine made up our travel group for this trip.  We took Uber for all our activities in Paris as it saved us considerable travel time around the city.  Every minute counted!  We divided the cost of each ride between the three of us. Uber rides: 15-25 euros

Love the Street Signs in Paris

I just love the street signs in Paris.

This is the pedestrian lane that leads to one of the most famous museums in the world.

There it is, the very iconic triangular structure in the country.

My husband wanted to see the museum as it reminded him of his sister's favourite cartoon show.  I'm also interested to see this place, especially after reading Dan Brown's book which was set in Paris.  It's amazing how similar the place looked compared to my imagination when reading the book.

We played around here like preschoolers.  I love how my husband plays around like there's no one looking.  You're the best, babe!

They told me when I was single to travel the world as much as I can, and life will never be the same when I get married.  I thought to myself it doesn't have to be that way.  Now that I'm married, I love having a life partner for all my adventures.  We have no plans on stopping our travels, even if we have kids. Selective dates and activities, but we're still going to explore the world together.  It might be different in so many ways but I like the levels of my travels from single to having someone and then eventually having kids.  My gang will grow soon but for now, we're enjoying our time together as a couple.

The whole square around the museum fills your eyes with amazing architectural designs. Here my husband shows off his jumping moves out in the open.

We exited the square at a different corner of the street.

I love the composition of this photo. It shows different ways of travelling.

Walking around Paris

Walking around Paris was very entertaining for me.  I felt like I enjoyed myself more from the things that I saw compared to going to tourist sites.

Just chillin' here watching people pass by with the Seine River on both sides of the road. Walking around Paris has been a great exercise for me; we walked all day long looking around town.

Porte des Lions

This is just on the other side of the street we were seated at.  The buildings in Paris are just very outstanding.  It's like seeing my encyclopedia pictures back in the day but in real life.

People Watching?

Le Soleil d'Or
Address: 15 Boulevard du Palais, 75004 Paris, France

I find the cafes interesting.  All the chairs outside the cafe are facing the street.  I never knew people-watching is a great past-time here in Paris.  It was weird for me to face the street and not see the person with whom I'm talking.  I couldn't complain as my coffee paired with a delectable Crème brûlée was made with perfection.

 Notre Dame Cathedral

 Notre Dame Cathedral
Address: 6 Parvis Notre-Dame - Pl. Jean-Paul II, 75004 Paris, France

The cathedral was still under renovation when we went to visit it.  The fire that recently happened devoured a great portion of the structure.  We didn't get to see what's inside the cathedral but seeing the intricate designs of the building was good enough for me.

Souvenir Shopping

Another highlight of my day is Souvenir Shopping.  At the corner of the cathedral, there are plenty of souvenir stores to choose from.  Look at what we've found!  We didn't get to see the painting of Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum but for me, this is another cool way to see her.  We got T-shirts, a musical box, and fridge magnets.

La Fontaine Saint Michel

There's always something to see that is surprisingly beautiful just around the corner.  This beautiful fountain was right next to the street we were heading, and we met a Filipino-Canadian couple who graciously took our photos.  Both of them were travelling all around Europe for two weeks and had gotten sick.  This was a wake-up call for the three of us.  From that day on we made sure to drink lots of water and take our daily dose of Vitamin C all throughout the trip.

The sunset at a Rooftop Bar got cancelled.  It turns out they close during the off-season due to the weather being too cold.  Wonder why they can't just put some heaters up there?  Instead of whining about it, we bought tickets for a Jazz night performance.  The Jazz band started late so we had plenty of time to walk around and have dinner. It felt like this was a hidden gem of Paris.  It wasn't that crowded with tourists and I love it just that way.

The band played in an underground bar where local Parisians danced all night long.  Each dancer showed off their moves but only one couple stood out for me.  They danced effortlessly and you know from the smile on their faces that this was just another night of having fun.  We sang along with the band with whatever lyrics we could make out from their songs.  No one was driving so each one of us had a beer in hand.  It was a great way to end the night.
