Here's how it works:
How Do You Communicate with a Deployed Soldier?

The Emergency Communication Service will send the message to the command center, which will then notify the officer on active duty in the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard about the situation involving their family member.

  1. Go to the American Red Cross Website
  2. Click on “How to Access Services”
  3. Choose “Option 4 - Submit a request online”
  4. Sign in or Create an Account, if you don’t have one
  5. Fill out the form.

Make sure to have all these details prepared on hand before filling your request

Take note

After completing the online form

  • You have an option to add a note. I added more hospital details like the room number, the admission date and a short information about my mom’s condition. Make sure to take note of the “request number” after completing the form. The “request number” is also the reference and case number.

Call Verification

  • After successfully submitting the form, minutes later I received an email to call them with my reference number for more verification. The American Red Cross Number is 1-877-272-7337

  • I called the American Red Cross and provided the reference number. I then provided the commander and the first sergeant's contact numbers. They also asked if the officer was informed and if the leave was already filed.

Email Confirmation

  • After the call, I received an email that the “Emergency Communication request has been verified and is pending delivery to command.”

  • Shortly after I received another email from the American Red Cross, that the “Emergency Communication request has been delivered to command.”

  • My family member then texted me that the leave was approved and was able to book a ticket to fly home.

I hope this post will guide you on how to access the Emergency Communication Services with the American Red Cross.
