This is the only hiking trail in Southern California that we have visited more than once. I even came here while pregnant with my first son, and we continue to return for more adventures. Without a doubt, this is my favorite hiking spot in Los Angeles.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, this post will feature some delightfully cheesy images to celebrate both love and friendship, so consider yourself warned!

Open Year Round
And guess what? It's open all year round, so you can experience its beauty in every season. Oh, and did we mention the sea lions? They're the unofficial welcoming committee. And for those who like to live on the edge, there's rock climbing too. Ready for the hike of a lifetime?
Whale Watching
Did you know that whale watching is a popular activity at Point Dume? You can often catch glimpses of gray whales migrating from December to April right from the beach. We encountered one during one of our hikes; although it was quite distant, just the experience of knowing and witnessing that magnificent creature swimming was truly remarkable.

The Highlights
We typically opt to hike here in the spring due to the stunning wildflowers; the vibrant yellow blooms are truly a sight to behold.
The hike offers stunning views of Santa Monica Bay and the Malibu coastline, making every step worthwhile. On clear days, you might even see Catalina Island. Special moments include watching playful sea lions and, if you're lucky, spotting dolphins or a majestic whale.
This certainly won't be our last visit, as we plan to return soon. If you're seeking an easy hike with just a hint of challenge, this location is definitely worth checking out. While you're in the area, don't forget to explore El Matador Beach, another nearby tourist attraction.
